Motivational Self Improvement | Self Help to Calm Yourself and Be less Stressed in Life

Being calm in life, and having mental and emotional calmness when you make important decisions, is a basic self help skill that we all need to master. Here are some simple tips to become more calm and relaxed in your outlook every day.

Are you always cranky or irritable? Do you think that the universe is picking on you? Are you constantly taking it out on your friends and loved ones? After all, it’s tempting to blame other people and situations, from neurotic loved ones and toxic strangers, to friends, and even your sad childhood, for bad behavior.

But, it’s possible that it’s not really your life but your cranky attitude towards it that is bringing on your case of the grumps. In other words, it’s high time that you consider your actions to be responsible for muddling up your own life and making it one big, chaotic mess.

The truth is, everyone has to deal with bad news, difficult people, and disappointments. But it’s not really the stuff that happens, but how you deal with it that really matters. In short, you are in control. Basically, you can overreact, blow things out of proportion, and believe that everything is a big deal. Or, you can change a couple of habits, reevaluate your perspective, and make life seem easier.

If you’ve got a long list of important phone calls to be made, projects to be finished, and things to be done, don’t look at life as if its purpose is to somehow get everything done. This can make anyone restless and grouchy.

That’s because it’s a vicious cycle. Often, you convince yourself that your obsession with your to-do list is only temporary, and that once you get through it, you’ll be calm, relaxed, and happy. But that rarely happens. As items are checked off, new ones simply replace them.

If you’re constantly obsessed with getting everything done, you’ll never achieve a sense of wellbeing. The solution? Remind yourself that everything can wait and that very little in your work life truly is considered an emergency.

In the end, nothing is more important than your own sense of happiness and inner peace and that of your loved ones. Instead of spending all your energy obsessing about what needs to be done, spend time doing things you’ve always wanted to do.

Do something worthwhile every day. Remember, at the end of your life, there will always be unfinished business to take care of, and someone else will have to do it for you. Don’t waste anymore precious moments of your life getting bugged about pressures.

Being impatient 24 hours a day and 7 days a week leads to your being easily annoyed or irritated. Life isn’t fair and everyone will have to deal with their own set of responsibilities.

No matter how perfect you’ve tried to make things, life will throw you a curve ball to muck things up. Don’t be sorry for yourself because that’s just the way life is.

The funny thing is that the moment you recognize the sobering fact that things don’t always turn out the way they should, you start feeling less resentful. Look around you and remind yourself that challenges are a basic fact in life.

Instead of whining and sulking over your sad situation, consider yourself lucky because you still can change the way things are.

Use these simple steps to stay calm and in control - make learning and applying them your self help personal development project for this week.
